Biography

David Josue Jimenez Silva was born in Arguineguin in the province of Las Palmas, on January 8, 1986. Currently he is one of the flagships of the new generation of Spanish players such as Andres Iniesta or Cesc Fabregas. Spotted at a tournament in the Canary Islands at age 15, he signed a contract with Valencia. Incorporated in the reserve team the left-footed player shows some great skills.

Versatile, the kid can play in all offensive positions, but find it difficult to break in the first team due to the presence of Pablo Aimar, Angulo and Vicente. In order to get some more playing time, he was sent on loan to SD Eibar, in the second division in 2003/2004. He makes a convincing season but needs to pack up again the following year.

This time, it is the newly promoted Celta Vigo who welcomes him. Given the playmaker role in the side, Silva imposes himself as a first team player and helps his team to stay in the first division. Better still, Celta finished sixth and gets a place in the UEFA Cup. A few months earlier, he participated in the World Championship under 20 years, scoring four goals. A tournament marked by the talent of the Argentine Lionel Messi, whose dribbling swaying are not unlike those of the Valencian prodigy.

Back to Valencia in 2006 and seizing the opportunity that Aimar just left for Zaragoza, Silva is finally included in the first team. Taking advantage of the many injuries that affect the team, he will get opportunities to shine for the team particularly in the Champions League. His goals against Inter or Chelsea also help him build a reputation in Europe. In the two following seasons David Silva will only miss 6 matches while scoring 14 goals.

Despite attracting a host of interest from established Premier League sides in 2008, he will choose to sign a five-year contract that will see him stay with the Spanish side.

However in June 2010, David Villa will finally make the switch to the Premier League by signing for Manchester City. The four-year deal is believed to be in the range of 25 million pounds and was awarded the number 21 by his new side.

On the International scene, Luis Aragones, Spain coach, offered him his first cap against Romania in November 2006. It will take however almost one year to see Silva scored his first goal for Spain in a match against Greece. Indeed he will score twice in this game which will see his side win by 3-2.

David Silva also represented Spain in Euro 2008 in which he will score a goal in the semi-finals against Russia after a quick counter attack. For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Silva will only have a minimal contribution playing in first match and only 4 minutes in the match against Germany for the semi-finals.
